The heat is on here in the South and so I decided to go with a snippet from "Laid to Rest" where the heat is on Darlene as she finds Mayor Stroud has departed this life.
With my heart slamming against my ribs, I felt of his wrists. Nothing. I pressed my fingers to his neck and there was no pulse. The richest man in town was dead.
Dead and gone as Granny Higginbotttom would say.
And, I was in a shit load of trouble.
If you looking for a short, funny read, check out Darlene's story

Oops, I'm wondering what exactly she just did. Great six!
Oh no! Lol! Great snippet!
Thanks! Things just keep going downhill for Darlene.
LOL -- I love how Darlene thinks. And the predicaments she gets into. :)
Poor Darlene! Love that she remembers her granny's old expression during stress. This looks like another laugh-out-loud read, Patricia. Great six!
Sounds like an interesting and funny read. Great six!
Quite the predicament! I enjoy Darlene - she's quite a character, can't wait to see what she does to get out of this. Great six!
Great six. Sounds like a deliciously funny tale.
I'm positive Grannie Higginbottom and my grandmother were friends, because my Nannie would've said those exact words! Delightful 6, Patricia :)
I just finished Laid to Rest this weekend and loved it! This six is just the tip of the iceberg of hysterical circumstances of that night. Funny, funny read! And wonderful six, Patricia!
Darlene sounds comical and adorable. Did she have something to do with the mayor's departing? Um-- Cute!
Big hugs to all of you!! I hope everyone is staying cool.
Nice evocation of her shock.
Great POV, the character moves the story along wonderfully.
Darlene is just great!
That's great stuff, Patricia. Hilarious. I get a kick out of her reaction.
Great Six.

Uh-oh! This doesn't sound good for the heroine!
