Friday Faves Movies, Books and More for Sept 9th

My Friday Fave post features movies, books, music, and more. Not necessarily new releases but you might find something you would want to give a try.

The Nice Guys is a new film that is soon to be released on DVD. I saw it at the theater and I would rate a six out of ten. It was not as funny as I thought it would be, but there are moments. Ryan Gosling does a great job as the bumbling detective and Russell Crowe, the strong man. I think Crowe really excels in drama more than comedy. It is set in the seventies so you have leisure suits and bling. Also there is a young girl, Gosling's daughter, that tags along in the movie and sometimes that seemed a bit awkward. Overall, this is an entertaining film to watch if you're looking for a period-piece detective movie with humor. Rated R

BEING DEAD IS NO EXCUSE The Official Southern Ladies Guide to Hosting the Perfect Funeral by Gayen Metcalfe and Charlotte Hayes

A friend loaned me this book because she knew the book I write are set in the South. This is a recipe book filled with hilarious essays about dying in the Delta and how to have the perfect funeral. There are also funny antidotes to go along with recipes entitled Aunt Hebe's Coconut Cake, Liketa Died Potatoes, Butter Pecan Topping, etc. This is such a fun book! If you like Rick Bragg's Southern stories, you will definitely enjoy this book. Plus the recipes sound great!

And one of my favorite acts and a finalist on America's Got Talent is the Clairvoyants. They are such a charming couple! I have tried to post a YouTube video of their performance on this post, but without success. I have my fingers crossed for them!

TGIF!!!!
