Hollywood Has Been Good To Jesse James

Jesse James was considered a handsome young man. He had vivid blue eyes, an upturned nose and high cheekbones. In fact, his delicate looks served him well during the war. Dressed as a girl, teenage Jesse worked as a Rebel spy. By the mid-1870's, he was the most famous and most sought-after outlaw in the country. His controversial murder in 1882 served to cement his legend for generations to come and some of Hollywood's most handsome leading men would lend their good looks to the young outlaw's image.

Let's begin with the stunning Tyrone Power who starred in the 1939 movie, Jesse James, along with Henry Fonda, who has the role of Frank James. Tyrone Power was the elegant Jesse, with gorgeous black hair! But, Tyrone was brown-eyed and he would not be last brown-eyed Jesse.

Colin Farrell, the bad boy playing a bad boy, starred as Jesse in American Outlaws. The movie was pretty much all fictional when it came to the true story of the Jameses.  But, overall, Colin made a great outlaw.
Then, we come to the guys who had Jesse's eyes. Rob Lowe was the pretty Jesse.  Rob starred in Frank and Jesse in 1995. (At least, Frank got his name in the title for a change.) Lowe had the striking blue eyes and chiseled face associated with Jesse.

Lastly, the most famous actor to play Jesse James, who definitely has the looks for the part, is Brad Pitt.
Brad Pitt played troubled Jesse in The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford. This is an excellent movie and I definitely recommend it. This is not a shoot 'em up Western like the other movies. It is a character study between Jesse and his killer. The soundtrack is also terrific as well. Brad Pitt's Jesse is a troubled character, very paranoid and unpredictable as Jesse was rumored to be toward the end of his life.

Which one is your favorite?  The real deal Jesse?   Or Tyrone?  Colin?  Rob?  Brad?   (Did you notice they all have popular hero names?)

Great post! Love reading about Jessee James.

I think Tyrone Power is the most dashing Jesse so my vote goes to him...even though he does have brown eyes.

By sheer looks alone, I'd have to go with Robe Lowe or Tyrone Power. My first thought was of Brad Pitt, but I just found The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford too dreary for words and could not get past that!

I will pick Rob Lowe, because I think he's the cutest, although they're all really cute. Honestly, I haven't seen any of these movies. I do know one or both of the James brothers were put on trial right here in Huntsville, Alabama, but were acquitted. Interesting history.

I loved American Outlaws. Have to add that to my Amazon wish list, but for the best portrayal of Jesse, that honor goes to Brad Pitt in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. I was haunted by that performance.
Great post!

Today they could have given Tyrone blue contacts and that would have made him perfect! Rob Lowe comes in as a close second lol.

Looks like Tyrone and Rob are ahead! Tyrone was handsome! Cindy: You are right about Rob's eyes. Melanie: The James gang got around, they supposedly robbed the bank here. Hope to see you Sat at HOD.

Wow, Tyrone is way ahead! Deb: I do think Brad Pitt did a great job in the movie and so did Casey Affleck in "the star and the obsessed fan" scenario.
